Essential Maternal Medicine for Midwives

The complete 2023 recap video is available to watch online.

We are delighted to invite you to a one day hybrid course in maternal medicine for midwives. Experts will discuss the key questions to ask and the red flags to look out for in pregnant women who present with breathlessness, headache, abdominal pain, palpitations and other common symptoms in pregnancy.

There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and also to discuss particular cases. We will have a presentation discussing how to interpret blood tests in pregnancy and how to help midwives recognise medicines that are safe from those unsafe to take during pregnancy.

Mother and newborn. Child birth in maternity hospital. Young mom hugging her newborn baby after delivery. Woman giving birth.

Our aim is to bust some of the myths about medical care of the sick pregnant mother.

Sessions will be delivered by clinical leads of RCP-recognised Obstetric Medicine Training Centres, and clinical members of the NHS England expert group that developed the Networked model for maternal medicine. Learn about the role you can play in this exciting and important new model for improving maternal outcomes.

Our faculty include experienced obstetric physicians, nurse specialists and maternal medicine lead midwives. With generous funding from a charity set up to further the work of obstetric physicians we are able to offer this course FREE for on line delegates and for a nominal fee of £30 to cover catering only for those who attend in person. All our speakers and chairs will be present in person to encourage maximum interaction.
